Greetings from Sandy and Pat

December 2002
A very exciting year for us.  We took up the carpeting and refinished the solid oak floors throughout the house. Sandy did some carpentry and finished four new cabinets for our collectibles and videos.  All turned out very nicely.

In January, we went to theRomantica Dinner at the Westgate Hotel put on by the Garden Compass with Bruce and Sharon Asakawa.

February took us to see the Harlam Globetrotters.  Also enjoyed two weeks on Maui--Whalers Village Aquarium, snorkeling, the Sugar Cane Train and the Haleakala Bike Company's sun rise excursion. (It was cold up there!)

March was a sad month, we lost our Taffy cat after a long battle with pancreatitis and then our sweet Michiko died from Addison's disease.

We went on a home tour of the Spanish revival homes in our neighborhood in April--very nice.

Sandy started another collection--buttons. She thinks it's the best one so far and has lots of fun creating new ways to display them. Anyway, we went to the button convention in Visalia in May and celebrated Midsommer in Kingsburg, a little Swedish town--a parade, dancing, music and carved wood collectibles.

In June, we had the Paperweight meeting at our home and the following week the Button Club work party.  We also had our annual visit to the Philsbury Ranch to see the San Diego Zoo's famous Joan Embery. We found out that she was retiring from her job and heading for Africa to work with the breeding program on the Kenya Reserve.  She was very excited to be chosen for this very important conservation effort.
July found Pat volunteering for the Rolando Citizens Patrol and our annual fireworks display--wow. The Laguna Art Festival in August -- thanks to Ed and Ada -- was even more spectacular then we had remembered.  We also got to see the play "Beauty and the Beast" -- wow, it was terrific, too. September we were busy planning for our long-awaited visitors from Sweden.
Oct 3rd we picked up Ingalill and Camilla at LAX!!!

What a wonderful vacation for us all. We saw the highlights of San Diego: Wild Animal Park photo caravan, Sea World, the world famous SD Zoo, Coronado, La Jolla Shores, Crystal Pier, and shopped at Horton Plaza and Fashion Valley. We then took off for Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Sun-Maid, Kingsburg, San Francisco, Monterey, Hollywood & Universal Studios. The three weeks were over before we knew it.

November was a "relax" and "catch up" month and we really got a lot accomplished.  We had Thanksgiving with the family on Saturday and here on Thanksgiving Day. Then we had another sad event. Sandy's sister-in-law had a dizzy spell, was diagnosed with brain cancer, and died within a month, on December 2nd.  Life is truly unpredictable.
Well, we are still getting ready for Christmas, the card's the first thing, then the tree--it might be safe this year with only one cat and one dog.  Then we'll do the outdoor lights--they are always so beautiful.  Christmas is coming and we are busy, busy, busy. Our church has a wonderful choir and they are performing several shows to get us into the season.  We are so blessed and we hope you will be blessed this coming year, too.
